Juju Battle! An absurd card game
An absurd "strategy" game my cousin and I made in high school. Downloadable rules!
When I was in high school, my cousin Steven and I made up an intentionally absurd 1v1 "strategy" game using cards. It was partly a rebellion against money-grubbing trading card games like Magic and Yugioh. Our game had Yugioh style traps, but only took a regular deck of cards rather than collectables.
Reading it now, two things stand out. One is that I remember it actually being pretty fun. The other is that even as a 30-something I find its attempt at absurd humor... still funny? Maybe it's just the nostalgia, or the shared sense of humor I've always had with Steven, who was very much like a little brother when we were growing up.
Anyway, here's the game. The original instructions and a later spreadsheet with a slightly more complete list of "techniques" and "upgrades." What do those things mean? It doesn't matter. It's not like you're going to play the game... are you?
I'm almost tempted to write a 2nd edition. I think I'd simplify it so that you didn't actually add any numbers. Number cards would just be worth 1, face cards 2, aces 3, techniques would be used differently... hmm...
